Anyone have any input on what stats to start with and if race is a factor?

I'm a fan of gnomes but I think high elves would be a better choice because they have 20 more CHA and only 6 less int than a gnome to start off. But in the end, do you think it really matters much? I've never geared out an enchanter so I'm not sure how easy it is to make up a 20 CHA difference in old world gear. And its my understanding that CHA is a vital role in an enchanters life, for mezzing charming and lulling.

Secondly, how do you allocate your starting points? If its true that its easier to gear CHA than int, then it seems like int is the best choice for most, if not all, of the starting points. But maybe a healthy mix, maybe 20/5 or 15/10 would be a smart move.

Any input would be awesome, I'm making my girlfriend into a crack whore :).

Ok ok, that wasn't nice. SHE PICKED ENCHANTER OK!! I just nudged her that direction....hahaha

race GREATLY affects your starting stats.

1- CHA and INT are the 2 main to focus on
2- let her create whatevery she likes, if she don't like her toon, she wont like playing.

Show her 3-4 good races with high INT and CHA and let her pick the one she likes and all is good.

Yeah well she likes the gnomes which is why I mentioned them. But in reality, she can illusion into whatever she wants (which was part of the attraction to the class for her, even if its mostly cosmetic). I'm not worried about race selection deterring her from playing, I'm gonna make it too fun for her to resist!

Mostly cosmetic? No way; it moves your faction in one way or another giving you access to easier transit, exploration, quests and merchants.

Just remind her to offset the imbalance of any particular race. Such as a Dark elf has good int but not the best, while cha is fairly low. Go mainly for Cha.

The closest I've seen to a "cookie cutter" enchanter would probably be Erudite. I've seen exeptional enchanters of evey race though. She'll be fine as long as she picks what she likes and doens't put all her points into idk....str or something.

And although illusions can negate some of the drama in picking a particular race for cosmetic reasons. Illusions in Vanilla EQ fade after zoning, don't have incredibly long timers iirc around 20min or so. Mid to high level most people get tired of switching illusions or keeping them up. If you like your native race though it's no big deal.

after falling in love with the class on a different classic project, one of the biggest things is the use of hide wile charm soloing .. it emanates the need for inviz/ivu or an item like gazughi ring taking up a item slot.. if i could go back on the server im on now id choose DE for the hide since like stated above the look is easily changed (and another part that drew me to the class to start with) when it comes to stats ... it varies with the choice of race like also stated above... you will find that alot of the items you will get will be drastic to one or the other ie a 9cha neck or a GBS so you will have to balance your gear choices and be sure to always use your cha/int buffs ... great fun class to play that people are always happy to have around to crack them out and speed them up
