Hi all,

I'm having a bit of a slow day, and feeling some heavy nostalgia overload. One thing that I was trying to do earlier was to log on to one of my old AIM accounts, partially for the general nostalgia of it all, but also in hopes of seeing an old SN light up online.

Unfortunately, none of my old passwords work, and I am told that my old account username and password cannot be reset for some indiscernible reason. In desperation, I actually called AOL's customer service support number, but was mostly just talked down to for even considering asking them to help with resetting an old username and password.

Have any of you ever logged into old AIM accounts? Did you have to reset your username and password? Were you actually able to?

Halp!

Wow, AIM.... old school. But I guess anyone that spends any time to log in to check EQC is old school / nostalgic by birth.

No I haven't tried. But now I kind of want to haha. Thanks for the random shot of nostalgia :)

I can relate to the nostalgia.

Not only do I still use AIM, I still use ICQ! lol ICQ was pretty much the chat client of choice back in the UO days.

I had a special interest in AIM due to a little home project. I wanted to get a Windows 3.11 VM online (no built in TCP/IP!) and then after successfully doing that, wanted to see what sort of Internet apps I could actually run. AIM has some old versions that still connect and work like a charm. Stuff like FTP, Telnet and other older utilities still work perfectly well. The big issue is doing any sort of meaningful browsing.

Aim was great back in the day. I still remember calling AOL one time to quit, and the rep telling me AOL was the biggest internet provided and AIM was the most used messaging software on the Internet, so how could I quit. I think they had something like 28 million users then.

I had both AIM and ICQ (uh-oh) but haven't used them in years. ICQ was a pain when it first started because of the random long number you had assigned as your login. Then ICQ and AIM got together in some way.

I'm not sure how relevant AIM is today with Facebook and app-based communications but, AIM was the texting of its era.

I'm going to log in just for ha-ha's.

Update: Logged in and my contacts list was a ghost town. Not a single person signed on!

I logged in to ICQ a few months ago, but of course no one was online. But I had no option or ability to recovering my AIM account(s). I even contacted their customer service on the phone, but they couldn't do anything about it.

I just logged into AIM
7 of my friends were on....
AIM was the primary communication tool for most of us in grade/high school so this actually doesnt surprise me... apparently there is a phone app too? Most of them had phone icons next to their names..

There is also a mobile phone app for ICQ. But none of my friends still use ICQ. I wish I could get my old AIM account back. It's actually very upsetting to me. I'm trying to nostalgia so much right now!
