When was that ridiculously OP mask nurfed? because if that mask is in EQC.. jesus christ every cleric will be erudite

I was actually thinking about making an Erudite Cleric because they were such a rarity back in the day. One of my good friends was Erudite, and he was a king of a cleric.

Also, Paineel is an awesome zone, so I'd like to see more of it and actually use it.

The quest result (mask) originally had the clicky Call of Bones, which is one of the mid level Necro lich spells.

Call of bones isn't really that great. It's just slightly better than C1, and didn't stack. Plus it eats your health pretty good. I'm not even sure you would break even as a cleric. The first Lich spell that was great would be the level 49 version that was like 20+ mana per tick.

It would break even, and then some. Depending on your level and how much standing you did would give you varying results, but assuming you are sitting for 95% of the time here's what the gains would look like starting at level 24 (because this is when you get greater heal):

Level 24: +32 mana (Approximately a net gain of +1.7 mana per tick)
Level 50: +131 mana (Approximately a net gain of +3.6 mana per tick)
Level 51: +165 mana (Approximately a net gain of +4.5 mana per tick)
Level 56: +210 mana (Approximately a net gain of +5.8 mana per tick)
Level 60: +262 mana (Approximately a net gain of +7.2 mana per tick)

Gosh everyone knows you cast dark elf illusion, then u get clarity casted on you.. then you click your call of bones mask. SILLY! --> Double regen = CCH spamming cleric.

Maybe the Dark elf illusion let you stack clarity + the mask for double mana regen?

......no, dark elf illusion and mask effect are both illusions. They wouldn't stack.

It sounds like he was referring to a spell stacking bug. Whether it actually existed during classic is something I don't know, because I'd never heard of this before.

Hahaha I discovered that bug.. completely by accident, got my dark elf guise when I was mid 20s.. erudite necro. Was always in DE form.. someone would clarity me and I would call of bones(later transitioned into lich when i hit 50) and I noticed I had both CoB and clarity.. I was basically spamming undead nukes in lguk to get rid of all the excess mana. Good times. Eventually they figured it out (who can resist bragging in those days) and it was *fixed*.

Was not a bug a lot of people could abuse, and it required either the guise or some other form of illusion spell to stack.

The best race is either dwarf for the pure stats, or dark elf and halfling for the innate hide. No other race really has anything noteworthy, and I don't like the weak ones because your gear will be heavy and you won't have the strength. A high elf has like 55 base strength, you simply won't be able to carry your shit.

Human is worth a mention because of Terror Forged Mask which, until some later patch, had a mana regen worn effect which was invaluable. It's HUM/ERU only and the quest requires you to be a follower of Cazic-Thule. This'll get fixed at some point and turn into clicky fear which is pretty worthless. Erudites can use it as well, but they have the same strength woes as elves and gnomes.

Dwarfs can't wear the Vulak`Aerr robe.

Halflings have sneak as well. This can be very useful if used properly.

I really wanted to make a halfling paladin for the sneak (and their strangely powerful melee stats).
Eventually I'd use this for all sorts of quests and merchant trading. Sure would have made Overthere Hammer a lot easier.

Unfortunately you need Amiable faction to get that hammer and sneak only puts you at indifferent. Sneak doesn't get you the hammer.

Puppet strings on the other hand would work for this, however when doing this you want that npc max debuffed and your CHA as big as you can get it. So bring an enchanter and shammy/mage buddy with you if you're using puppet strings.

Come to think of it, I was thinking sneak would give some sort of faction bonus but I'm probably wrong on that. Could you actually lower your faction using sneak?

I'm pretty sure sneak will let you bypass faction requirements for some quests, however that is only a guess. I think there are only a handful of quests in the game that require a certain faction level to complete. I do know sneak will let you interact with any banker in the game regardless of faction though, so that in itself tells you sneak bypasses faction requirements, at least in that regard.

Sneak sets you to indifferent to anything that hasn't spotted you, and most of the important quests require you to have more faction than what sneak defaults to.
