The feedback I have received in private (PM, e-mail, etc.) has been downright appalling--truly shameful remarks. I have never had the displeasure of leading so many entitled individuals and I am utterly embarrassed to be associated with this community.

If he wishes to continue tolerating your nonsense, I am leaving things to Harakiri. If you have anything terribly important you want to save from private messages, back them up now; I will be nuking them prior to transferring the forum database.

Regardless of what Harakiri decides to do, if you think I am about to hand over my work to someone else, think again.

To the dozen or so people I would have loved to create a server for, I am truly sorry I will not be able to deliver one.

Wow...I don't think a lot of people really get how hard you must've worked on this thing, doing it just because you wanted to...and now to find that a whole load of people think they can decide what happens with this thing you made so some of us can have some good nostalgic fun.
I think the fact people have evidently chosen to flame/rant at you in private makes it even worse. More sort of...personal. I hope you block them all and I really hope that one day we still get to play EQ as it used to be - I feel like we got so close to that goal and now it's suddenly not looking so good.

Can't say I didn't see this coming. Not meant as a flame YL, but I knew from the conversation we had during P1 testing that this was inevitable given the history of the project. I didn't really know people were being jerks to you, but I can't say I am not surprised. Thanks for the effort and thanks for giving me a place to hang out for the past few years.

So this project, over five years of work, is done because you got some nasty emails from passionate fans who just want to play a classic rendition of EQ? That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Talk about taking your ball and going home. You're really going to screw hundreds to thousands of fans and followers and shut this down over some emails and PMs? C'mon...

While I've never contacted any anyone privately about my negative opinions, I've certainly shared them on the boards.

Frankly I'm still astonished at the level of loyalty that some display for YL. However this basically does confirm to me that many of the "silent majority" were as perplexed as I am. And to YL, you stated all along that your goal was purely classic which was the driving force of this community you've lead. So when you unexpectedly change your course 180 degrees then you should assume some flack is incoming. Especially when your reasoning doesn't really hold much merit given the nature of this project from the get go.

And Xarpolis...I truly hope you're exaggerating for the sake of your own mental health. You've always struck me as a cool guy. No need to hate over a video game.

For the record, I've been "silent" for some time because I was just waiting to see what was gonna happen - of course I want to play EQC but then a whole load of other people were saying "ooh but you could change this, or this" or "omg wtf why is Yeahlight changing everything" or "I think it should be done this way", so I didn't really feel like saying anything. Maybe I should have - maybe all of us who thought "Oh, it looks like things might be changing, but let's sit back and see what exactly is gonna happen" should have actually said we were still here and happily waiting, so that there'd (hopefully) be way more of us than the ones giving all the grief.
YL has spent hundreds and hundreds of hours working really hard on this thing, but it's his thing - the fact that any of us might have got to play it was a bonus. If someone randomly offers to do something for you for free, is your chosen response really to tell them how you think it should be done, what they should do with it, and why you think you're deserving of receiving it? Because that's basically what it looks like has been happening here.
I'd probably have sent YL some encouraging/friendly/nice PMs if I knew he was getting harrassed by people unwilling to let others hear them complaining, just to try and even things up a bit .

Cool, once again the little annoying whining kids ruin another online experience for me. I guess there is no escaping it, this was my one and only hope.

The really sad part is I don't think anyone except maybe a few people following this are even under 20.

It sucks to hear this, but I can't blame YL one bit for not wanting to be part of it anymore.

Since the news of a potential custom content server, the boards have turned into a bickering mess. The fact that people are taking it out on YL is pretty sad, considering he doesn't owe any of us a damn thing. We chose to follow this project and he dedicated countless hours of his time to this for no real reward.

Regardless, I am happy to have followed this project and make lots of friends from these boards and IRC. Testing was a blast and it was great helping YL and Hara with bugs, seeing these guys in action is really incredible. The community will always be what EQC is for me and despite it going to hell in the end, it was a blast.

I don't hate over a video game. Realistically, I wasn't going to be able to invest much time into it anyway. It's a disappointment, nothing more. What I do hate is the childish behavior of whomever was emailing YL to get him to this point.

I'm surprised. Just yesterday I put in a post how this was the most mature message board I'd come across and then this. That's unfortunate. I definitely understand Yeahlights position here. I have very little tolerance for ungratefulness. Sorry it came to this. Let me jump on the bandwagon and thank you and H for the work you've done.

I've always been wary about what type of people would have been in this Classic world had it come to fruition. It doesn't take many bad apples to spoil a bunch. I equate them to ninja looters, kill stealers, trainers, and the whole lot who would occasionally leave you with a bad taste in your mouth after a play session.

I didn't realize so many people were harassing you Yeahlight, you've done a great job. I've been following this project for at least 5 years and am surprised to see how much work you've done and how far you've been able to lead this project. Hopefully things turn out differently, don't let some upset individuals drive you down. This is your project that we all want to enjoy.

I am a software engineer / consultant by career, so I understand the amount of work that went into this. It's kind of mind-boggling.

I wondered how long until Yeahlight said "fuck it". Some of the people who want an EQ experience are down right nuts, you are probably wondering how I can make such a bold statement?

Take a minute to figure out what exactly you wanted from this situation. I mean take a good HARD look at it. Why do you frequent these forums? Is it to play EQclassic? That ship sailed in '01. Most of the people who come here want the exact perfect experience that still probably haunts their dreams. So they rally behind anyone who utters the words EQclassic. Enter Yeahlight and Harakiri. Two people who took up the mantle and did their very best to create what most people jizz themselves stupid over.

How is anyone surprised it didn't happen? You could blame Yeahlight for having integrity (WAT, no! better to blame sony for being dicks right?). But at the end of the day this is not his IP and his hands are tied. (who knew Yeahlight wouldn't be willing to violate the law for a bunch of chumps gathered around a message board????!?!?)

So you have 4 choices: Two of which are rational choices. 1) Either quit coming to EQC and accept its over OR 2) Support Y@H while they try to use the same mechanics of EQclassic but supplied with different content. Unfortunately and judging from a thread I read, the majority of people were outraged that Option 2 could even exist. In their limited minds it was EQC EXACTLY 100% PERFECT.. or nothing. So what did these clowns do? ..... 3) They did what clowns always do (for more evidence see WOW forums discussing class changes) and they start spouting off as much angry trash talking shitty comments they could muster. Most likely ending each email with a lamentation of how their life has been somehow ruined or they have been violated by Yeahlight etc etc blah blah.

Of course Option 4 was never considered by most, why? sandy vaginas. Look if your here for a classic experience.. it is not happening. Yet there is a classic experience waiting for you, it is called project 1999 and regardless of how they ruined your life by banning you unjustly in the past.. with time everything changes. If you want an eq classic experience you have 1 option: project 1999 but I digress..

Enter the silent SUPPORTIVE EQC'ers. Now these people are truly shocked by the abuse Y@H have been taken as of late. These are the people who support EQclassic in whatever means Y@H wanted it to take. Count me among this crowd as I was very interested in seeing what Yeahlight would of done with his server.

Frankly I think Yeahlight could of made something amazing. MAYBE he should change the website from eqclassic to something more befitting so as to spurn the retards from their unrealistic dreams/flames. But he was making the best of a pretty shitty situation.

Anyways! Thanks again Yeahlight for keeping the spark alive, you have a bright future ahead of you and it is a pity things had to end this way. What you and Harakiri did with the client was incredible, I for one am sad I will not get the privilege to play on your custom content server.

I'm more disappointed in you YL than the game not being finished. You put way too much time into this thing. Criticism is what makes a man. Run with it and do something great! Don't run away from it... Find that moment of passion that made you decide you wanted to do this for the love of the fans and for Autism research. I bet that was a beautiful moment in your life.
