Its a philosophical question if he is doing it "for us." He certainly got personal gratification in producing the code, just like I get gratification for cooking my wife a meal or doing her laundry. It feels good for me personally because she expresses gratitude, smiles at me, and tells me I'm thoughtful. Without that feedback, I would not feel a personal reward for helping her, and I would definitely do it less.

My argument is he was probably (at least in part) excited to provide server code for a grateful community, just like I enjoy doing tasks for a grateful wife. Without the gratitude, it is way less appealing.

Danger ranger rustling the jimmies hard. And let's be honest...overall the community has been extremely positive with most people simply just leaving. I can count on two hanamount of people who have been publicly critical in the last few threads

No, you didn't:

I see you have extended the term meltdown to include "responses that identify pathetic trolling attempts."

I am done working on this project because this community deserves less than it already has, not because the unintelligible rants of a few underachieving losers damaged my pride.

Disrespectful and ungrateful entitled losers can drive one to the brink of pure rage only because their idiocy is unfathomable... I speak from experience. It is difficult to stay gathered when your hundreds / thousands of hours / dollars are completely disrespected on a level not known to humans in the real world.

"I'm just asking questions." --- Cartman

Private messages are exactly that. Assuming/suggesting the worst about them smacks of desperation. I can't recall if I ever had a private conversation with YL, but if I did I applaud the fact that he has the integrity to ensure it stays as such. I'd like to think every person who ever sent a private message to YL -- whether they got a response or not -- should feel the same way.

It would appear Harakiri has the ball then. I would say grats but seems it's a bit like being promoted to Admiral in the Galactic Empire. What I will say instead however is that I support whatever you decide to do in this endeavor and if there's any reason to believe I can be of assistance with something, by all means give me a buzz.

The shills and trolls make themselves easily noticeable. Within 5 minutes I was able to tell that ranger danger is one of them, he utilizes the words 'meltdown' and 'vaporware'. Most of his recent posts have been antagonistic and soon he will use 'tin foil hat' or something to that effect in order to protect his internet pride.

Much <3 and respect YL, these children will have much to learn if they ever attempt to accomplish something in the real world.

I have a lot of respect for the YL of the past, but this new YL, that comes unhinged at the merest of subtle jabs from Ranger, sends up a huge, red flag.

I also dare say that being willing to hurt an entire community, merely to lash out at the few bad apples, is appallingly childish, at best.

Ban me, hate me, whatever. If YL's account has been compromised, it doesn't really matter. If YL has changed this dramatically, as a person, it matters even less. :|

This projects lead has now changed to Harakiri.

YL has done very very much for this project. Treat him with the respect he deserves.
That means the shitstorm stops now.
No insulting, no accusations! If you think Harakiri can handle the project the way you would like it, stay and enjoy this community peacfully. If not, you are free to leave.

If you feel depressed about what happened scream at your teddy bears or do whatever floats your boat but don't do it here.

First and last warning. Play nice or this thread and any other that moves into such a direction will be closed.

Just because changes are about to happen everyone of you should not forget their manners.

I referenced vaporware?

So if this server were to continue with Hara, then we are looking at a custom server at best? Would be nice to have an answer soon so people can make a decision whether to stick to it or not. For me at least.

SOE's blessing was YL's stipulation. I don't recall Hara ever voicing an opinion one way or the other.

Still gonna follow this project. I haven't posted much on these forums esp after reading about the legal hangup with SOE. Personally I would not stop at this point especially if I dedicated that much time and effort to something but I am not you Yeahlight. Simply put this is your project and I was just along for the ride enjoying my occasional visit to these forums. As they used to say in EverQuest in the good old days be safe!

Good luck Harakiri and remember some of us are still sticking around so don't slack off...too much!

Thank you for the many hours and years of your hard work YL. Thank you for putting a smile in my face every morning when I came to the forums and saw an update. I'm sad this project has reach a dead-end (with you leading it) but I'm hopeful in the future a new project will surface.

Following this project has become a daily routine for me in the many years since it began. If it works out, fantastic, if it doesn't well then it was enjoyable to have the anticipation.

A lot of the folks that are raging need to stop. It's not like this project took days out of your lives and if it did, then the devs are not to blame and you need to get your priorities straight. Your time invested =/= EQC owing you anything.

Y'all would get a lot more done with a lot less hassle by nuking the forum itself and sticking with a blog. The emoticons here suck, anyway - look like a bunch of balloon people. :)

All the best, YL - and gl Harakiri.

This was basically my only word of advice directly to YL. Dump the forum. We're all a bunch of leeches anyway.

Not a bad idea to be honest. I've come to the conclusion that the allowance of participation in something as simple and benign as message boards instills in people an odd sense of ownership to the point of entitlement. In retrospect this project would have been better served as simply a work of passion unviewable by the masses unless/until it reached fruition. As I said previously, there seems to be a large collection of people here who simply don't understand what their role in all this truly is, but clearly several have overstepped themselves. Fans who seek to dictate what an artist creates for them tend to get exactly what they deserve.

Art doesn't require a community. EverQuest does. without communication between community and the developer then the server would be unsuccessful no matter the quality of the coding.
