For those of you who are questioning why YL would quit over a few "nameless meanies" as you put it, you are missing the point. You did not receive the emails or PMs that he did, nor do you know the contents of them. For all we know he may have had some hacker pull up his real name and address out of nowhere and threaten to kill him. I am not a quitter by any means, but sometimes stuff gets really serious, in that case I definitely would have preferred to drop off the face of the Earth (metaphorically speaking). I really hope that's not the case. If it isn't, then point 2) He said he doesn't want to be associated with a community that has the mindset of those who sent those awful PMs. He is our leader in this project so all of the disrespectful and rude things we say are ON HIM to the outsider's eye. You need to take some time and understand this. If Point 2 IS the case, then questioning his reasoning here is not doing any help in proving that the majority of us are NOT the entitled spoiled raging brats who sent him the PMs.

If there really is a "hidden reason" why YL is not continuing, it isn't our place to question it. His reason may be too personal to talk about. Maybe some serious RL stuff is happening and he'd rather not discuss it. That's his right to choose not to. Coming here on the boards and repeatedly saying "There's more to it" is not going to up and make YL confess, so drop it. I feel like the few of you who are doing this are more mature than those who sent the PMs by a longshot, and that you aren't trying to be rude at all, but you really are coming off that way.

Yeahlight, I am not in your shoes nor will I pretend to know anything about the PMs that were sent to you. But I do believe this long wait has humbled the majority of us to truly value how much work you have put into this project. I for one am grateful for the work you've done, even if I'll never see it. Please give the community another chance to prove we're not all assholes! I for one never dreamed that your project could be used for a custom content server and I'm ECSTATIC at the idea. I was looking forward to EQ Classic all these years but the idea of getting a NEW Classic experience is really exciting and will do more in truly reliving Classic than an exact replica could. Just think of all those quests we'll have to figure out again, without the help of Allakhazam!

I am not leaving because some socially-bankrupt nobodies were spewing off written diarrhea; I have been tolerating this for years--give me a break. I am leaving because their tidal wave of shit reminded me of the majority makeup of this community (those mostly residing outside of the few dedicated followers left on this forum).

I have stated a number of times that I am not interested in playing this game ever again. The only reason I considered making a server is because there was an expectation for one, but clearly it is either classic content or bust. I do not possess the rights to host a classic content server, the feedback for a custom server was poor and there is absolutely nothing of educational value remaining in the source.

Returning to this after a six-month break is just impossible for me to get excited about now. Why is this so difficult to understand?

To answer your question, I think the difficulty in understanding your decision is due to just how anti-climactic this project has ended. Years of work cast aside in an unceremonious post. Your refusal to release what you did even though you say you are no longer excited or care. Nothing further to satiate the anticipation of the people waiting. Etc.

The whole thing was just a 180 from your attitude throughout the previous years. Is it surprising people willing to routinely visit this site are having a hard time swallowing it?

Also, I don't really care. I am not capable of producing anything like what you did, so more power to you if you're sick of it. But, if you don't give a shit and are willing to let years of work circle the drain, why keep it to yourself? I mean, at least come out and say, "Because fuck you. That's why." I've been around a while - well before Wizzel had his meltdown. Always, grateful for the dedication of YL, Hara, and others who contributed to this effort. The maturity in leadership is the reason this has come this far. I completely understand the fatigue, YL. This has been a huge endeavor and time sink. It's been a good ride. Thanks again.

Harakiri still has access to the source and I believe he plans to continue working with it. If he ever decides to stop working on this project, we will then discuss what to do with the source, but please understand that the last thing we want is for someone to take our unfinished work and launch a half-assed server with the intention of defrauding a player base with RMT and donation schemes.

YL, then you know what you have to do. Finish the job.
