What I am saying is this probably isn't why he is throwing in the towel. It seems so contrived, like some adolescent breakup where one party tries to make it the others fault.

Yes but the question is why? Throwing away tens of thousands of hours of work on this project because of some mean emails and PMs is a lie. No one would do that.

We are all adults here, level with us and tell us what happened and why you are quitting. Don't blame it on some emails. That is a total insult to the intelligence of the followers and fans of this project that have been following your every word for the past five years. Did you hit a wall or problem that you can't solve? Are you unable to figure out something? Tell us the truth. If this thing is indeed dead, so be it but go out the right way instead of blaming it on nameless meanies sending you PMs who really want to play EQ Classic.

Yeahlight, I am sorry to hear that whatever messages you were receiving drove you to this. I can't say anything to alleviate whatever emotions you might be feeling, but I am angry for you that all the time, effort and money YOU invested into this project, this forum and this community has come to this.

There are numerous posts in the thread to prove your first statement absolutely incorrect, and the fact that you would think YL is hiding anything or lying to us is insulting.

Humans possess the ability to become the most violent, outrageous, demeaning beasts on the planet, and we prove that daily. The number of self-entitled, bigoted, tantrum-throwing pissants that made themselves known after that announcement was astounding, and a complete blindside. The fact that it had to come to this at all is embarrassing, and I don't blame YL at all for voicing that fact.

It's been fun, crew. There are numerous members here that I would hope to continue to associate with. You should have an idea for who you are.

This seems a bit overboard for something you put so much work into. Words are words, who cares what they say? I don't know anyone that thin skinned in real life.

Yeah, it's your code. Do what you will, but don't expect everyone to understand why you're calling it quits over some nasty PMs. You're a talented developer. If this was really your vision, why not give it life? Would you really let it crash and burn over some raging internet dweebs? If custom content is what you want, fucking do it. Not everyone will be happy, but you and many others would be. Maybe you think it's not worth it. Maybe it will be short lived. I don't know, and neither does anyone else.

It's almost as if your looking for an excuse to just walk away. If thats the case, just be honest about it.

Also not allowing anyone to pick up the pieces of this project where you left off if you truly are done seems very selfish. In the grand scheme of things a lot of people were upset since the direction of your 'eqclassic' server experience that this project has been touting for so long turned into a 'custom content only server' after SO LONG. I have been following your forums for years upon years rooting you on and hoping to see the day this server would come to fruition.

Now I'm beginning to wonder why I didn't listen to people when they said you would never make it happen.

YL, dude, it sure is a loss, but you"re the one who put 5 years of efforts into this, so you"re punishing your own self more than anything else.

Atleast I hope not. If it is.. then this project wouldn't have made it too far either way, I can't imagine someone so ridiculously thin-skinned (I still can't believe that is the case) would be able to withstand a launch or maintain a server without having a break down and taking their ball home like this either way.

So, IF YL's emotional vulnerability is truly the case, I'm glad it happened now and not after hours spent camping jboots or something.

But YL is a smart and successful guy, so there is no way he can be that sensitive, otherwise he wouldn't have gotten that far in the real world.

I know that, but they still act like kids and feel like they have some huge entitlement over this project just because they've been following it for so long. YL and Hara have been the ones putting so many hours of their time into it so nobody has the right to disrespect them, no matter what their expectations were. This is a a small side project and is thus subject to things going wrong or changing, get over it people, and stop being rude.

Well to say I was a staunch supporter and die hard fan of this project would probably be an understatement.

I've always tried to remain positive throughout the years, and even when things got a bit dicey at times, I just hung in there and tried to remain hopeful.

I have always spoken highly of this project all across the Internet, and tried to spread the word of EQCLASSIC to anyone who would listen.

You know, I'm 44 years old, and I've seen some shit in that time. At some point you just have to let go. Just let it happen, adapt, overcome, yadda yadda... But it still hurts. Sure you can take it, and shrug it off, but you still feel it.

This fucking hurts.

So a final thank you to YL and HK, because it isn't about us vs. them, it just is what it is.

And a hearty FUCK YOU to any and every single motherfucking cocksucker who harassed these guys in such a way as to drive them from this project. I hope you die in a fire, also I hear cancer is nice.

If it really was a few nasty PMs, why not just ban them and trudge forth for the positive majority? I don't buy it.

I suppose it's entirely possible that he's just completely burned out on the whole idea of this project all together. Sure it sucks that the legacy won't continue, but as others have said, he has spent the countless hours on the code and doesn't technically owe us anything. If you feel like the last 5 years here were a waste of time it's just a matter of opinion. I'm pretty sure I fall into the category of liking the idea of EQC more than actually wanting to play it. It just sucks that ride seems to be over.

But for real, the fanboying coming from grown men is simultaneously funny and disturbing. The reaction, at least publicly to the changes has been extremely muted for what's the norm on the internet. I'd love to see some of the PMs YL got that ended up here. Having lead a clan that was putting up 2k hours a week across 5 games and administrated several competition leagues my all time favorite is "inbred cock loving nigger fucker" courtesy of some guy from Hidden Arrows.

There are extremes on both sides to how YL is being treated. Firstly, if you move on from questioning YL's decisions/ability to lead the community to personally attacking him or making some sort of RL threats you should probably rein yourself in.

But on the flipside of the token, YL is not a God. He is not perfect. Has he put a lot of time and effort into this project? Yes, and that was his personal choice. Anyone who leads a community of gamers should expect flack. It comes with the territory. While I think there's a lot of cognitive dissonance going on I'm certainly not going to tell anyone with opposing opinions of mine to die in a fire or insinuate they should contract cancer. Which is a horrible and ugly disease. Jarek, you are a forty four year old man and you should be ashamed.

In the end I do hope YL makes the mature response and works with P99 so that those who wanted to use the classic client will be free to do so on a server that by most standards is pretty damn good overall.

I myself was looking forward to a custom content server more then a completely classic server. But with all the negativity and self entitled people i have seen recently, i would rather take the hit and not have a server. For the soul purpose of denying them a server to play on. Negative and self entitled people don't make for a good player base anyhow just take a look at "our friends" at Project 1999. He had every intention of at least bring out a classic custom content server but oh, well now.



Alot of time, effort and his own personnel money, and now he chooses to put his time,effort and personnel money into something else.

BTW thanks a lot now i'll never get my own EverQuest NPC dedicated to me. Oh and it's still better the Project 1999.

I was really looking forward to the custom server and even voiced my support after years of dormancy on these forums. This latest update is really... confusing.. after Yeahlight's apparent anxiousness and enthusiasm to start on the custom content. There was definitely a lot of support for it, even though there was a vocal group being whiny and rude.

I agree with Danger when he says something about this seems very off here. Makes you wonder if this wasn't vaporware the whole time.

Not sure if you were all in the alpha or not. But I was and I saw very little vapor while leveling toons.
That being said all is not lost. Hara has not indicated his quitting the effort.
