Nor me. Kind of sad, but also in a strange way kind of comforting.

I've been having an excited feeling lately. Don't really know why, but it just feels like the time is almost here. I haven't been this excited since I heard about the project several years ago. Maybe I'm just trying to be optimistic.

Not as excited as me. I've been following this project since it started back in what? 2007? 06?

Oh, so now it's a contest. How, Tyco, do you quantify that excitement? I'd like some system of measurement now, thanks. :)

No one is as excited as Morgo. He has a tattoo for EQC.

I read these forums entirely too much as well. Every SINGLE post. All of it. Nothing escapes me.

Is there an app that can send notifications to my phone for new posts? That would be awesome!

also is there a way to find out my join date from before forum reset?

I want to know mine too! But if this information was available I'm sure YL would have updated the join date stamp in the database long ago.

Also I think the subscriptions will send you an email for topics or forums with new posts that you've subscribed to, and you can make your phone retrieve emails. I have never actually tested the subscription thing here though so I don't know how it actually works.

lol Benthon, that's funny because I saw your name on a post and said, "Wow that's a blast from the past!". We used to play that cartoon fighting game and some mmorts (evony?) when the first forums went down and EQC was just an mIRC channel.

I'm reaaalllly looking forward to playing EQ again. None of the new games can keep my attention for more than a week or two at most.

i have to concur with the previous post,

tried eq 2, did nothing for me
got excited for vanguard, was bored in 5 minutes
played eve online, decent actually but something was missing
played wow, wrong to say its not a well put together game,
still found it hard to play more than 2 hours at a time,
hated many things
even tried wizard101, no

then i hear all the hype about guild wars 2,
amongst other reasons, when i heard they were using that absolutey terrible and ridiculous system of currency you buy with real money and then use to buy equipment i decided games are turning into phone aps and i got a bit sad

yes eq is the only mmo that ever did it for me, and as we all know it did it well
i attribute this to the tight knit small group of devs, i recently read that 10th anniversary book on eqs history,
the devs were d and d fans and ultima online players, fans of lore, dont get me started on what games are like today, devs should be fans, then the game's real, not an act to make money, its about something more.

games today seem to suck, but they dont all suck. im a guitar hero master (before it became shit, gh2),ssb64 ive probably logged thousands of hours, i rly liked gta4, very well made and ridiculously open and fun,

eq still = my favorite gaming experience of all time
:)

You know Clownsheep22, you're not far off from the truth. What terrifies me these days is this trend of this new "free to play" model which is not free to play at all.

Here's a fact brought up by simple logic: If the companies going free to play weren't making MORE money that way, they wouldn't be doing it.

Now how are the gamers dealing with this though? That's the thing here, and the key to this industries survival. Nearly every single free to play game I've ever played has ended up being an experience where if you don't eventually shell out cash, you can't really have a very fulfilling experience in the game.

Some free to play mmo's restrict you with the kind of gear you can wear (EQII). Others won't let you get extra bags even without paying (Eden Eternal). While some just plain won't even let you play the game unless you either wait X number of hours or pay them to play more (many Facebook free to play games).

This kind of stuff is a serious issue to gaming. I'm fine with the idea of just paying a full on monthly fee to play a game I'm interested in, but when the companies basically take 100% of their game and give you 70% of it, chopping out some very necessary content unless you pay, you run into an issue where to get ALL of the content you could have at 14.99, you end up paying twice that to get back your lost 30%.

It has to work like this, or these companies wouldn't be doing it.

I've yet to bring myself to play any free to play game for any length of time because of this. Some games have a subscription option which sort of negates the idea since you can unlock that 100% of the content through your subscription, but many people out there who normally wouldn't pay a monthly fee of 14.99 are doing just that through the free to play experience, except their paying double!

Games today do seem to suck. At least the mmo games do. They've become watered down, hand held, overly simplified, overrated gimmicky games that hold no water over classic mmo's that were BUILT upon a foundation of experiences, now stripped to their bare bones.

Mmo's are about exclusivity at their very core, and exclusivity is almost gone in mmo's that let everyone solo everything, show you how to get everything, tell you how everything works, and basically play the damned game for you.

It's sad and I hope it changes some day.

Planetside 2 is an MMO from the evil Sony corporation that I've taken to in a big way lately. Its an FPS MMO so its a bit different than an MMORPG of course. The key point is that its an example where there is nothing you must buy with real money that isn't superficial. And from what I gather the game is doing really well.

For me, the biggest problem with free to play, that will also affect EQC, is that griefers and hackers can make a new account extremely inexpensively. I'd rather have a "pay only" server and let the F2P people hack among themselves.

I ask that we try to please keep this on topic. We're going WAY off here lately. This is an announcement topic about the Development Roadmap.

Thank you.
