It's been a while since a noteworthy video could be posted, this is not directly related to the EQC Server but to the EQC Launcher which was already used in Alpha#1 and has recently been extended by me with Widescreen Support.

The Trilogy Client only supports 5 resolutions which are all in 4:3 (640x480 up to 1600x1200). In 1999-2001 most people only had a CRT monitor, however this is no longer the case - and playing a 4:3 game now will either result in stretching or black bars on the left and right.

This video demonstrates that through EQClassic custom Launcher it is now possible to use virtually any kind of resolution and aspect. The video demonstrates the 1920x1200 (16:10) resolution. Together with the audio enhancement last year (http://www.eqclassic.org/forums/viewtop ... =41&t=3134) creates an enjoyable experience even on newer hardware.

The EQCLauncher will offer widescreen support with hor+ scaling. For those not aware - here is the difference in the field of view when comparing 4:3 to 16:10

The FoV will be extended horizontally while keeping the vertical aspect.

Enjoy!

I just heard that the EQ Live client does not even support hor+ scaling ! This is pretty funny http://www.wsgf.org/dr/everquest - this patch adds better widescreen support than the current directx9 client has.

This is amazing. I wish more people were still around to see that the project is still going on strong.

What makes you think everyone that was around before, isn't still around?

Oh, that's right....you can see the last time people were online, lol.

I guess it's really not funny. :(

Nice... I think if audio/video could be enhanced with all the content being the same would make for a refreshing, yet nostalgic experience.

That's beautiful man.

I played in 1024x768 with black side bars on my 1920x1200 monitor during alpha, but with this nice of widescreen support I'll most likely go native Rez next time. Hint. Next time.

Will we be able to see someone playing EQC in full 4K I wonder?

No, the EQ Trilogy uses DirectX 7 (yay classic particle effects, clouds and such) - and that only supported a maximum resolution of 2048x1536. This means your normal max 16:10 resolution is 1920x1200. You could go as far as 2048x1280 since my changes also support non standard resolutions. The first deus ex suffers from the same issue.

However, there is no use to go beyond 1920x1200 - even on my 30" with 2560x1600 rez - anything higher than 1920 would result in an unreadable interface text because the fonts do not scale with the resolution.

Oh yeah, DX7 haha. Wow. I should have realized that!
