Greetings Fellow Conjurers,

I love Magicians, plain and simple! DPS, pets, utility, etc. Magicians are powerful classes, especially in the Pre-PoP days. So my fellow Magicians, just imagine...

20+ Air, Fire, Water and Earth pets converging on a single target!
20+ Bolts shooting out at that aforementioned target!
20+ Rain spells raining down fiery death!
20+ AE Flux spells devastating the enemies around you!

I was sold when I thought about it 5+ years ago. My Magician buddies and I battled through dungeons, quests, and even the odd raid mob. It was fun as hell, and I hope to have that kind of fun all over again!

I know it's a big proposal, to ask a Magician to join a guild solely focused on the "Magician" side of things. However, as the game starts up I expect raiding to be a standstill. A group of Magicians could fight together for their focus items. They could group up and collect those pieces of armor that they want and need! They could even farm pieces for their epics together once Kunark is released!

Once raiding starts ramping up on the server we could ally with other guilds. I'm sure many guilds would fight over the chance to get a few groups of quality Magicians in their raid! The pure power of 20 air pets chain stunning is insane! Factor in bolts, blasts, rains, and fluxes... just crazy!

So my fellow Magicians, lets unite under one entity! We can band together and better ourselves together as a group! What do you say?

As a former Classic EQ Magician, I say, "HELL YES!"
---------

I posted this last year, and want to once again toss it out there. The guild would be focused on leveling, gear and quests as a group of magicians. Sharing knowledge, research skill, hand-me-downs and experience as the game progresses. Magician only groups are very viable until raiding, at which point we can partner with other guilds. (they get DPS, we get a classic structured raid group to support our DPS)

I'm not opposed to grouping with magicians outside the guild. But I believe preference for magician only groups would be given to guildees.

Who's with me? ;)

I agree. As a fellow experienced Mage.. a group of mages is insane. I will consider it but will not make any decisions on anything until launch time.

I didn't think of that. I suppose that would be another positive! People can track down magicians easily! :)

Thats a good idea however... How many times have you been in a group and thought "Man, we need a mage!"?

Changing the layout of the original post. I'll be keeping track of possible members within it and their class. This will allow some fence sitters to judge the amount of assistance they'd receive during the first few lower levels.

Ex: I don't think the dark elves will be able to group up with the High elves effectively at lower levels without great difficulty. However, prospective Dark Elf and Human plays would find it much easier.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me. I will try to keep this post as informative as possible! :)

No one said you couldn't have two characters. ;)
I'm sure magician groups would be very receptive to welcoming a mana battery (with group pet buffs!). However, you'd be dedicated to standing back and singing. We'd have no heals or agro control for you (pets won't hold if PC is within range).

Bards make great pullers once a magician has CoH! :)

Back on topic though... you can count me in for the mages guild. I really loved playing my magician back on EQ Live, and never even considered another class for my main back then. I was a big advocate for the class back on the old magician forums. I just love the magician class in general.

I led many magician/pet only groups back in the day, and was one of the leaders of the Rodcet mage crew (I think Ronin and Caleb were the others? Its been so long). I'm trying to remember all of the targets we took out back then. I know we did Dain, Velketor, and a lot of the epic fights. All of that before omens and level 70. After omens we did a lot of crazy stuff with mages. I bet we could do Velk and Dain and some others at 60 with 3 full groups of magicians, especially if we had a few epics.

Anyways, I think I could probably contribute :)

Welcome to the guild! Glad to have another experienced magician within the ranks! I never had a chance to do large scale magician groups at lvl 60, it was mostly during PoP. However, the thought of downing the Dain with 3 groups of magicians is causing me to grin ear to ear! 8D

Actually.. 3 groups of magicians.. period.. makes me grin ear to ear!

Not sure I'd join this, sure a all mage group for XP is probably nice, but you can't really raid IMHO. No port, no rez, no puller. Plus everyone will be fighting to get mage loots ;)

Once we get to that point we will be grouping up with other guilds to raid. Do not expect to see us clearing NToV. That is not what we are here for. In the early stages of the game it will be experience, quests, Mage gear, and research/spell help (in addition to providing information to new magicians in the community).

Was pet pulling in classic? It was the cat's ass.... could out pull nearly anything. :)

Idea sounds good. Best of luck to you. I'm still leaning towards the idea of an all Bard guild with the same idea.

I don't think it would be difficult at all to recruit friends of other classes to come raid with us. Think about it... we're all magicians, so we would all want the INT caster gear and magician only gear. That means all the gear for other classes is up for grabs!

Of course, all magician raids are pretty limited in the type of mobs we can kill. Anything with an AE that you can't hide from is pretty much off limits, since nobody can heal us or otherwise generate meaningful agro in any way while chain casting pets. Rampage is also pretty hard to deal with. But like Jify said, we would probably be looking to team up with other guilds anyways. We could be like a mercenary team... Can't quite bring your target down? Hire us to put the hurt on your mob in exchange for caster item x if it drops, or x plat, or whatever. I'm getting excited just thinking about the possibilities! :)

I am already getting excited too. My sister will be joining forums too and has decided to join. She is going to make a Mage anyways.

I think the Mage's Guild will be full of wonderful surprises.

I'd rather we tag along with the understanding that if "A magician item drops, it goes to our guild, and then we will distribute it accordingly." Guilds paying for magicians would be worthy of notice through /gu, but I don't think it would warrant an official "guild raid".

Of course, this can all be fine tuned in the future. But I'd assume for the first bit of raiding (Phinny, Vox, Naggy, PoH, PoAir, PoF) magicians would be more interested in Magician gear, rather than platinum. (More Focus items, more uber/epic pets, more targets we can take on our own!)

As far as grouping goes, we'd pretty much dominate.

"/gu Forming up a magician group for SK Aviaks, who's interested? PST."

That's fine Yankee :) Race will only be an issue in the early lvls, by our high teens/twenties it should be easy for the guild to group regardless of race. Pre-twenties shouldn't be too bad anyways because our evil race mages can group during that time while the good race mages will group up. It will be amazing.
